News and rumors have been flying since news broke that Disney is in talks to buy large pieces of Fox. Fox, of course houses a large piece of the Marvel Universe, including all Mutants (X-Men and all associated characters) and the Fantastic Four (and all major FF villains). The fact that (if this deal is goes through) all of Marvel’s characters could finally be under one studio could be a huge win for comic fans. Everyone wants to see Wolverine take on the Hulk on the big screen.

BREAKING NOW!

temp

Josh Brolin has reportedly signed a four picture deal to play Cable in Deadpool 2.

Is it real? Brolin most recently came to the big screen as Eddie Mannix in last year’s Hail, Caeser!  Comic book fans will know him from the multiple MCU films as the mad Titan Thanos.

The highly talked topic of “Who will play Cable?” started with the credits scene from the first Deadpool film. The tease issued by none other than Deadpool himself.

Cable, also known as Nathan Summers, is the child of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey), who was transported into the future as an infant. For years Cable popped in and out of Marvel’s main continuity and timeline. In 2004 Cable was paired with Deadpool in Cable & Deadpool. Their polar opposite personalities has made Cable a constant inside of Deadpool comics ever since. While the characters have a hilarious and sometimes violent chemistry, the two are often depicted and expected together. Such was the case with Deadpool in 2016.

The biggest news here isn’t necessarily Cable’s casting. If Brolin does appear as Cable, he will be the first actor to appear in both the FMU and the MCU simultaneously. I know, it’s shocking. FOX’s history of being unwilling to accept any sort of agreement with Marvel Entertainment has caused quite a rift between the two companies. If Brolin signed a four picture deal, will he still be allowed to appear in the MCU?

This story will continue to draw attention as it unfolds.

So far, anything touched by DC on the silver screen has done fantastic in the box office. But according to the website Rotten Tomatoes, they can’t do anything right. The critic aggregator site’s critics claim that Rotten Tomatoes shows a bias in favor of Marvel films. David Ayer even went so far as to send out a (now deleted) tweet outright accusing critics of taking bribes to judge DCEU films more harshly. He has since tweeted a retraction of that statement but, he seems to have struck a nerve with the fan community.

When I first caught wind of this nasty rumor, I thought it was nothing more than smoke. I thought to myself, “There’s no way a site that big would risk everything on something like that.” But, just like the guy I am, I did my due diligence and found some disturbing evidence to support the conspiracy theorists. With an average fan rating and critic rating difference of a whopping 41%, I found it a little disturbing. I expected it to be a little bit closer than that. With the highest rated DC film to be Man Of Steel at a, still rotten, 55%, and Suicide Squad garnering a 98% fan rating, things do seem off. I didn’t understand how far off until I saw the ratings for Marvel.

Civil War II and Rebirth are still going at it strong. Marvel dominated for the month of June with 40.08% of the market. DC came in second with 29.93%, and Image has their 7.88% market share in a kung fu grip. However, DC is grabbing up unit sales and is rapidly becoming a threat to Marvel with only a 12.48% difference in units sold! Not surprising is the fact that seven of the top ten issues in June, were DC titles. DC also has a firm grip on trade paper backs for June, taking five out of the top ten TPB’s for the month. In a world where Marvel has dominated for the past few years, DC seems to be on track to dethrone the reigning king.

This week, the publishers are giving us a shining example of what comics have to offer. No matter what you’re into, there’s a book out there for you. There’s quite a few out there for me. So…………
