Welcome back to The Nerdery, I’m JD. You’ve all heard me say that hundreds of times. However, today isn’t the same.

Welcome to Texas, we are all The Nerdery.

I’m sure you’ve all seen the devastation left behind by hurricane Harvey. You’ve watched celebrities donate millions of dollars to the Red Cross. And as good of an organization as it is, the Red Cross won’t rebuild homes or supply a permanent solution to the thousands of families who have lost everything. Once the flood waters subside and the shelters close, people will be returning to their homes to try and piece their lives back together. We as a national community need to step up and help.

Over the nearly four years of running The Nerdery, I’ve had the privilege of meeting some of the greatest artists, writers and publishers from the comic book industry. I ask for interviews and quotes politely. I take great care not to be pushy or ask for anything other than time or an autograph. Today I’m asking, urging and begging for something more.

The Nerdery will be holding a charity auction for comics, autographs, posters, prints, Pops and more. I’m asking for all of our friends, stores, writers, artists and publishers to donate what you can. One hundred percent of all profits will be directly donated to multiple relief funds that use funds to make a direct impact for those affected in Houston, Rockport, Corpus Christi and other areas. such as Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, Texas Diaper Bank, Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the Foundation Beyond Belief: Hurricane Harvey Recovery.

I’m not going to call anyone out by name, but you all know who you are. I ask and urge all of you to donate whatever you can to this cause. Any memorabilia you may be willing to contribute is greatly appreciated. This is no scam. The Nerdery isn’t around to make profits, and to prove that, we are opening the vault and it will be auctioned off. I will also be going through my personal collection and will be contributing to this cause.

Just remember, not all heroes where capes. We spend our time and money collecting, reading, watching and fantasizing about fictional heroes. Now, we all have a chance to be one. Every contributor will be listed on our website and on future episodes of The Nerdery Live.

I want to give a huge thank you to all of our first responders and volunteers out there making a difference in the lives of strangers.

For those wishing to donate or would like more information, please contact me directly at theprez@thenerdery.net

Houston local donations will be accepted at Captain Jack’s Elixers 322 East Texas Avenue Baytown, TX 77520
Publishers, retailers and artists, please contact The Nerdery President, Jonathan Hardin at Theprez@thenerdery.net to arrange a donation method that bests suits you.

Charities that will receive these funds:

Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund
Texas Diaper Bank
Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce
Foundation Beyond Belief: Hurricane Harvey Recovery
JJ Watt Foundation

We woke today with the news of Adam West’s passing. Adam was such a huge part of a lot of our childhoods and even into our adulthood, so this news hit so many of us hard. I know I can’t be the only one that ran around in my Batman Under-roos pretending to save the day from a nasty villain or to this day still wanting his fun gadgets neatly tucked away in that utility belt. He was best known from his portrayal of Batman from the 1966-68 T.V. series and the younger generation might better know him from Family Guy, where he played a comical  version of himself. Adam had been acting since 1959 and worked right up until his passing so everyone has come across him from at least one of his many projects. He’s done everything from serious films, kids movies to cartoons (adult and children’s). In any project he worked he was immediately recognizable, his voice alone is iconic. You can’t help but adore a serious actor who is comfortable enough to make fun of himself or take on more comical roles. I think that’s one thing that made him so endearing. It breaks my heart to lay another legend to rest. Rest In Peace Mr. West we will carry you in our childhood memories and remember you always. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends from all of us here at The Nerdery.

451Media is back at it again with Stained #1. Written by acclaimed colorist and 2016 Harvey Award Nominee David Baron and illustrated by Yusuf Idris, Stained is a breathtaking story that offers a peek into the seedy grit of law enforcement in a world in the future. A runaway criminal underground has pushed law enforcement into fear. With the police afraid to pursue the worst criminals, cybernetically enhanced bounty hunter Emma London makes a career of doing their job for them.  But every hunter is someone else’s prey.

Image result for 451 stained #1David Baron began his comic book career at the young age of 15 by coloring covers in 1996. Since then, Baron has made quite a name in the unsung art of coloring. Over the last two decades David has certainly earned quite the resume and witnessed first hand the do’s and don’ts of comics. This storied career has certainly allowed him to generate a compelling story in Stained.

Yusuf Idris is little known outside of a few circles. Image result for 451 stained #1However, don’t base judgement on his fame. Idris’ amazing range could put him next to the likes of Isaac Goodhart (Postal) and Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets). His art has developed into a style that will, no doubt, become synonymous with excellence.

This is a comic so breathtaking, any synopsis would be an insult to the writer and any artist involved.
