It’s May 4th, and we all know what that means! MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU, IT’S STAR WARS DAY!! So, today I bring you all the dirt I can find on what’s coming with the Star Wars universe. We’ll start with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

After the formation of the Galactic Empire in Revenge of the Sith, a group of Rebels plan a life or death mission: to steal the plans for the Death Star before it is used to kill and enslave billions under the Emperor’s rule. This, of course, being before and perhaps overlapping the events of A New Hope.

Edwards has said that it will be a very complex plot, stating, “It’s the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It’s complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie.”

Just like The Force Awakens, many fans may exhibit frustration over the fact that Rogue One will not revolve around the characters they already know. The Anthology films will be autonomous from all three other trilogy’s, with the exception of the, yet untitled, Han Solo origin film.

Speaking of Han Solo, I’ve done a great deal of homework on his upcoming film. While the details are still hazy and secretive, some rumors have definitely been confirmed. The film was thought to be just a rumor until March 8th of this year when Walt Disney Co. CEO, Bob Iger, confirmed the film’s subject as an “origin story about Han Solo and Chewie”, with an expected release date of May 25, 2018. Kathleen Kennedy, the co-chairman of the board and president of Lucasfilm Ltd., has recruited Lawrence Kasdan to write the film. Kasdan is no stranger to the franchise having written on Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens. Development has been a little rough. With thousands auditioning for the role of Solo, and difficulty choosing a director, we expect production to be a little on the slow side. There has been commentary on the choosing of a director.

It’s not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I’m excited to say we’ve found the perfect team to handle the task.“―Kathleen Kennedy

What’s more, Kasdan has illustrated a certain amount of zeal towards the project.

You know, he’s younger in this movie and that’s fun because you have to imagine him 10 years earlier in his early 20s. What was he like before he hardened up? Before he had some setbacks? Before he put on this cynical coat? What got him there?“―Lawrence Kasdan

There’s still the ever-present rumor of Boba Fett having a part to play in the story. With many of the non-canon novels detailing the extended universe, illustrating a long and “to and fro” relationship between Fett and Solo, it would be hard to imagine a Han Solo film without the most notorious bounty hunter in the galaxy. But those rumors have yet to be confirmed. What we do know, is that we will see how Solo became a smuggler, and how he and Chewbacca met.

As a die-hard fan of the Fett, I really hope this rumor turns out to be true.

As for Episode VIII, we have nearly zero information as to the plot outside of what’s inferred in Episode VII, and the way events have played out throughout the rest of the franchise’s history.  We can, almost assuredly, assume that the events of VIII will not follow directly after VII. In each trilogy before, each film of the trilogy would take place approximately three to five years after the previous film. It’s unclear how large of a role the Starkiller base will play in VIII and IX, but the base will undoubtedly be defeated in one way or another. Will Luke train Rey? Will Leia reach out to Kylo? Will Finn return to the First Order? Only the future holds the answers to these questions.

As for me, I wish you a great day and May The Fourth Be With You!!!
