I’m usually pretty late to see Marvel films, I’m not that big of a Marvel guy. However, I prefer to see DC films as soon as possible. The newest addition to the DC Extended Universe, Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice had me openly weeping at the end. Suffice it to say, the film was far more than I had bargained for. Dawn Of Justice has been out near a week and the reviews are a little on the harsh side.

Well, I almost discontinued this column this week. After going and looking at the stats, you guys really love this. So, here I am again to give you WOW. Some very good books coming out this week. 100 Bullets Vol 5 releases today (this writer is stoked!), Marvel drops three trades from Civil War, and Fight Club 2 is nearing it’s end with issue 10 (only two more to go!).

There’s a lot to be excited about this week. Batman VS Superman-Dawn of Justice opens tomorrow night, Civil War isn’t very far away, and Avengers: Standoff gets deeper into corruption. It’s a great week to be a nerd. So I’ll be keeping this short and sweet so I can get back to my reveling and you can get to reading!

So as I sit here looking at all the releases for today, I can’t help but feel a little torn on my current subscription list. Some I collect out of nostalgia but I want compelling writing to go with it. Some I read because they’re new and I want to give them a chance to impress me. Now, as a reviewer, I’m obligated to a let you, the readers and listeners, know how good or bad these titles are. The last issue of Voltron was a bit anticlimactic, not that it was a bad comic, or a bad title all together. I just had high hopes of Voltron opening a can. I will still pick up the new issue in hopes of seeing that. Meanwhile, Marvel is saturating the stand with reprints of old number ones’. For every old #1 we get a new #1 as well, making it hard for a collector/reader to choose what they have the capacity to follow or enjoy. DC has made things really dicey as well. Fresh new titles with intriguing concepts and art, while at the same time, old titles and characters face situations beyond anything we’ve seen before. Of course, all things being equal, we’d all love to take them all home. But, alas, very few of us can spare the money or space.
So I wish you all good luck in your choices today, and don’t be afraid to try something new. Truth be told, that’s the only way to grow.
