Lucifer officially debuted last night on FOX, much to the disappointment of One Million Moms. Based on the Neil Gaiman character, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) is the Devil himself. After growing bored of his life in Hell, Lucifer abdicates his throne and sets up shop in The City of Angels, with the intent on helping mankind through it’s misery by making a person admit their deepest desire by using his telepathic abilities. Running the
nightclub Lux. He soon crosses paths with a Los Angeles detective, Chloe Decker (Lauren German), who seems to be immune to his devilish charm. He decides to help the LAPD punish the wicked. All the while Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) is attempting to either convince Lucifer to return to the throne, or force him to.

While Tom Ellis does not physically resemble the Lucifer from the Vertigo comics, he definitely exudes the personality. The charm, wit, and blatant arrogance pours from his every word and movement. His performance seems to be his genuine character (no, I don’t think he’s really the Devil). Lucifer is, without a doubt, going to be a dark and serious series with loads of laughs. Take the religious undertones in stride. Lucifer seems to be, at its’ heart, a commentary on our society as a whole.

My wife and I will be tuning in for this every week.
