The Civil War Begins

With word dropping from FOX, that Fantastic Four 2 has been dropped from their release schedule, Marvel Entertainment delivers another blow to the FOX M.U. by releasing their first trailer to Captain America: Civil War.

I can’t help but get excited by this trailer. To see Bucky and Steve tag-teaming Ironman, is truly incredible. I can’t wait to see what else Marvel has up their sleeves. For those of you have not seen this piece of ultimate comic book foreplay, I present to you the video below.

The big question that has been on everyone’s mind is, “who will be the next Captain America?” Bucky and Steve beating down Tony Stark leads to the idea of Bucky Barnes as Cap. However, the extensive scenes with Sam Wilson being a bada** lends credit to him being the next man in line for the mantle.

Here at The Nerdery, we have extensive libraries of comics including the issues following Steve Rogers death. However, Marvel Entertainment like to get a little creative with their source material. So knowing the story line is of little help in this situation. According to the original issues, Bucky Barnes took the mantle for a period of three years before faking his death. Afterwards,the role was assumed by Sam Wilson. The MCU is playing it in such a way that either one could take the role. With Chris Evans’ Marvel contract expiring, and his desire to move behind the camera, there’s no question that we will see the end of Steve Rogers in Civil War.

But who else will be ending in this film?

I can’t help but bring up Rhodey unconscious in battle worn, War Machine armor. We definitely know the tension between Ironman and Captain America will reach a violent boil in Civil War, but will Colonel Rhodes be a casualty of that war? Where will Spidey fit in? What other casualties will we see in this war? Will Quicksilver return from an almost certain death? Will Scarlett Witch appear?

This trailer brings questions to the forefront of my mind that, before, were just curiosities. All of which are now driving inquiries. What will become of the MCU? Only time will tell. I wish all of you a happy holidays and promote literacy, read comics.

What’s Out Wednesday 11/25/15 Thankful Edition

Today is a day to be thankful. I mean, tomorrow is too, but today is NewComicBookDay. And this week, we have a lot to be thankful for. The final chapter of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight masterpiece is finally beginning to reach us. I’ve been waiting on this since I first read The Dark Knight Returns. For those of you who haven’t read it, I deeply recommend it. Something else to be thankful for, Marvel’s Civil War trailer has finally reached our eyes (CLICK HERE). Even more to be thankful for, Fox has dropped Fantastic Four 2 from their release schedule (look for the upcoming article for all the dirty details).

Jessica Jones S1E1 Review

So, it’s 8:51 AM on a Friday. I’m sitting at my desk with nothing to do but sit and watch Jessica Jones. Of course, I’m going to inform all of you exactly what I think of it.

Jessica Jones has got a lot of ground to cover. Comics on screen is the it thing these days. However, most of this ground has been covered by relatively well known characters. DC has had Clark Kent in Smallville, Green Arrow, The Flash, and nearly the entire Batman universe in Gotham, not to mention the huge fan disappointment at the cancellation of Constantine. Marvel has tackled relatively safe ground as well with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and due to the huge popularity of Agent Coulson, was very well received. Marvel also cranked out Daredevil through Netflix earlier this year with huge success.

Now, all these characters have been relatively well known through one source or another. Jessica Jones, however, comes onto the scene as an almost unknown character in the eyes of the non-comic reader. Her companion, Luke Cage, experienced moderate success and popularity during his run in The Defenders and The New Avengers. But, that was quite some time ago. The point is, this will be a story that will have to rely solely on it’s presentation and not notoriety.

So let’s get to the play by play….

Six minutes in and I’ve been surprised, a little shocked, and had a chuckle or two.

At fifteen minutes in, I’m captivated by this character and her story.

This is not a show for your children. Much like DC has been doing in their animated films for years, Marvel is tackling some very mature subjects in Jessica Jones. From language to sex, JJ shows an aspect of hero life that many have shied away form for nearly a century. That being said, this is a hero show that will appeal to all viewers in one aspect or another. Anyone who was a fan of Veronica Mars will love JJ, as it seems to be a more mature version with a lot of twists.

Hang on to your hats, folks. This is going to be a great ride.

What’s Out Wednesday 11/18/15

I just want to take the time to say thank you to everyone who came to the benefit this past weekend. It was a greater success than was expected. Together, we raised about three thousand dollars to go to Amber’s treatment. Thank you to everyone who came out and shared.

Onward into the racks. Marvel’s post Secret Wars relaunch continues with more #1’s coming out this week. IDW pumps out a huge number of issues this week, stepping up their game. DC continues their DCYOU coasting.

The competition is really heating up between publishers. IDW is attempting to reach domination through sheer quantity. It’s a risky undertaking for sure. Mass un-bought quantities could mean even harder times for the cult favorite publisher. Image has been near stagnant in this new age of comics. However, we’re seeing a surge in writing quality unlike anything we’ve seen in comic history.

So get out there and get your hands on hotness. Don’t forget to like often, listen often, and share often.

What’s Out Wednesday 11/11/15

The past few weeks have been a little sleepy for one publisher or another. I would have to say, this week does not continue that pattern. DC, Marvel, Image, IDW, and everyone else are dropping bombs today. Marvel brings a slew of Post Secret-Wars #1’s along with Secret Wars #7. They are also continuing their very popular hip hop variant covers. DC kicks out several new titles this week, including one for this writers favorite superhero. DC also brings us two more issues for Darkseid War, Green Lantern #1 and Shazam #1. From Image and Top Cow, Postal spin-off, Postal: The FBI Dossier drops it’s debut issue today. IDW kicks things into high gear with Back to the Future #2, Drones, and The Last Fall #5. With all this and so much more releasing today, there are going to be some hard decisions to make at the rack today. I wish all of you (and myself) the best luck in your choices.

It’s a huge week for comic book fans. Marvel, DC, Image, Dynamite, and Dark Horse are breaking out the big guns. James Bond hits the racks today via Dynamite Studios, just in time for this Friday’s release of SPECTRE. Marvel brings out a slew of number ones with Drax, Deadpool, Extraordinary X-Men, Hercules, Howard the Duck, Nova, and The Vision. DC slams Luthor on the table today. Image drops Citizen Jack, and on the other side, Dark Horse takes aim with Call Of Duty: Black Ops III, and Joe Golem: Occult Detective. Here’s to us and all of our issues.
