It’s an AMAZING week for releases. It seems there are more releases every week. Marvel and DC continue to battle for the majority of the market share. Meanwhile, smaller publishers like Image are still sneaking in for a small, however growing, portion of the market.
Marvel fights to hold their 40% by expanding Secret Wars with Age of Ultron VS Zombies #1, E Is For Extinction #1, Korvac Saga #1, and X-Men ’92 #1. Their already ongoing titles, Secret Wars and otherwise, are still sounding off, providing endurance for the Marvel machine. The Ant Man: Larger Than Life #1 will give strength toward the upcoming Ant Man feature film. I believe this issue will sell like hot cakes, so get it while it’s hot.
DC continues its DCYOU with Aquaman #41, Batgirl #41, Grayson #9, Justice League 3301 #1, Superman #41, The Flash #41, We Are Robin #1, and a few others. Their more serious titles continue as well. Deathstroke #7, Gotham by Midnight #6, and Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 4 #4 keep the DC presence strong through a rather small number of releases this week.
Image, aware of their current position in the market, has (in my opinion) the best releases this week. Our friend, and amazing writer, Matt Hawkins is giving us Postal #5 and The Tithe #3. Both of these titles have received top ratings by The Nerdery. All Star CCG favorite, Mythic is getting its second issue today. Rasputin #6, Sons Of The Devil #2, Invisible Republic #4, Wytches, The Fade Out, Material, and Spawn all make appearances this week as well.
This is another great week for comic readers. Whether you like heroes and superpowers, horror and suspense, or mysteries and detectives, there’s a book dropping today that you’ll love. So get to your local comic book store and grab some of these great offers.
Don’t forget to like often, share often, read often, and listen in every Sunday at 8:30 and 9:30.

007 Meets S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Again

It has been a long time since S.P.E.C.T.R.E. has been the protagonist in a Bond film. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a lot of things in a Bond film.
Since Casino Royale, the Bond film series has been experiencing a Renaissance. Showing us the very beginning of James Bond as a double-0 agent, progressing to him faking his own death, and his inevitable return.
Returning to an old villain, such as S.P.E.C.T.R.E. just makes sense to me. Goldfinger and Dr. No would result in a remake, however, S.P.E.T.C.R.E. would allow for NEW stories with a vintage feel. Take into account the fact that they’ve been hinting S.P.E.C.T.R.E. since Quantum of Solace, it’s almost mandatory to have Daniel Craig showdown with them in his last appearance as Bond.
You heard right. This will be his last film as James Bond. Rumor has it, he required a great deal of convincing to do a fourth. However, rumors abound of the studio courting several possible successors. More on that in an upcoming article.
Now, just look at that trailer!

Marvel definitely felt the heat from DC’s sales back in April. Marvel dropped Secret Wars just in time to take a great portion of the market back in May. At 40.17% of the market, Marvel is well ahead of the pack in sales with DC trailing at 25.43%. Image retained an 8.89%, putting all other publishers at 5% and less. It sounds like DC needs to pump up their sales tactics.
Undergoing a cross between a renaissance and a reboot, DC is starting an entire smorgasbord of new titles. The majority of DC’s older titles are experiencing rebirths, so to speak.
New titles beginning today are:
- Black Canary
- Doctor Fate
- Doomed
- Green Lantern: The Lost Army
- Harley Quinn and Power Girl
- Justice League Of America
- Martian Manhunter
- Prez
- Robin: Son Of Batman
Several titles have survived through Convergence and are releasing today, including Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #11, Sinestro #12, Superman/Wonder Woman #18, and Wonder Woman #41.
Marvel is releasing Bucky Barnes: Winter Soldier #9, Darth Vader #7, and a few other titles not related to Secret Wars. Marvel also continues its Secret Wars event with a multitude of issues carrying the Secret Wars logo.
- Armor Wars #2
- Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #2
- Magneto #19
- Ms. Marvel #16
- Old Man Logan #2
- Runaways #1
- Squadron Sinister #1
- Thors #1
Image drops more than a few golden nuggets today. Our friend Matt Hawkins is finally giving us Tales Of Honor: Bred To Kill #1, which we got a peek at for Free Comic Book Day. Image is also giving us Run Love Kill #3, Stray Bullets #5, and quite a good selection of other titles as well.
As always, there’s more releasing than I have room to even mention, so get to your local comic book store and grab some books. You never know what you might find.
