Semi-sad times are upon us. A while back Hugh Jackman posted the above picture and a message. The message was clear and possessed a great deal of finality. The message? His days as Wolverine are numbered and dwindling. This came about a week after stating in an interview with Cigar Officianado

“I said to my wife, ‘The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I’ve got to find a way to keep playing him until I die.’ I know that someday they’ll recast the role with another actor…I’d be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic.”

What caused a sudden change of heart? There are multiple theories, so let’s look at few.

The post came shortly after the announcement of the Marvel/Sony deal for Spider-Man. Hugh Jackman has stated in numerous interviews how much he wanted to be an Avenger. Seeing as how Wolverine has passed through the team on multiple occasions, this would make sense in more ways than one. He has repeatedly expressed great interest in a Wolverine/Ironman showdown, and we all know that would be incredible on the big screen. Question is, is he leaving because FOX refuses to make a deal so that can happen? Possible.

The studio may reboot the entire franchise sans Jackman. Seeing as how the Bryan Singer cinematic universe will be ending with Age of Apocolypse and Wolverine III, I would not find that shocking.

On the other hand, the upcoming Deadpool movie will allegedly share the same universe. Rumor has it that the Fantastic Four reboot will be a part of that universe as well. So the FOX MCU is looking pretty sketchy on its own.

Either way, fans will suffer in some degree. People who are still die hard FOX MCU fans regardless of the seperation from the regular MCU, will lose their favorite feral Canadian. Others will suffer the loss of hope to see Jackman as an Avenger. There are sad days ahead.
