Most of have seen the Batman VS Superman trailer, and more and more people are starting to see the connection to Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns. The question is no longer “Is that where this story will come from?” But rather, “How similar will they be?”

image

Zack Snyder has said outright that it would not be a direct representation of the graphic novel. It could be assumed, however, that it will take a lot of inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns.

image

Rumors have begun to fly stating that we will be seeing a Bruce Wayne who has retired due to a “Death in the Family”. ( For those that are unaware, “A Death In the Family” is a particular Batman arc in which The Joker kills, the then Robin, Jason Todd.) Seeing a stranger demolish half a city in an all out alien duel, Bruce dons the cowl once more.

image

It has also been rumored that we will see glimpses of The Joker in Dawn Of Justice. This rumor gives a bit more credit to the last. Seeing as how they are glimpses, we very well may see him in flashbacks of Jason Todd’s murder.

Speaking hypothetically, if the rumors are true, DoJ will be  combination of A Death In The Family and The Dark Knight Returns. If they turn out to be false, I still doubt anyone will be dssappointed by the result.

A NEW PETER PARKER???

We all remember the cinematic Spider-Men of the past. Their pitfalls, their triumphs. The excitement of what they may bring, and the dissapointment of their downfalls.

image

With Tobey Maguire, we were so excited just to see Spidey on the big screen. We all hoped for the best, but with a story moving at break-neck speeds, a lot of great material was missed. Some would be revisited later in the next franchise, others have yet to see the movie projectors light. Tobey Maguire wasn’t as palatable for a lot of fans as hoped either. Was it physical lack of resemblance? Was it the script? Was it his acting in general? It seems to vary from fan to fan. Three films later, director Sam Raimi (of Evil Dead fame) walked away, and with him, the franchise.

image

Five years later, we are happy to see our favorite wall crawler again, as Andrew Garfeild dons his web-shooters. For readers, these movies were also a little too fast. However,  they were far more “comic accurate”. With rumors of a Sony/Marvel deal, hope reached its zenith for the web slinger to join the MCU.  Then, came the news of Andrew’s ousting. We’ve been waiting on the next Peter Parker ever since.

image

Rumor has it that Asa Butterfield is currently Sony’s front runner for the mask. With huge acting successes such as Ender’s Game, Hugo, and The Boy In The Striped Pajamas, Asa has more than earned his mettle on the big screen. Being 18 will also make him the closest to Peter Parker’s age. We here at The Nerdery are anxious to see what a young actor of his credentials can do, standing between RDJ and Chris Evans, and on his own.

Once again a new face lingers on the horizon.

It’s What’s Out Wednesday here at The Nerdery, and we’re stoked for quite a few titles this week. From Marvel to DC, from Dark Horse to Image, titles will be flowing on the shelves today.

DC is giving us their last three movie poster variants, Batman#40, Superman #40, and Justice League #40. Jimmy and I have been collecting these from the beginning and will be reviewing these last three, and the collection as a whole this Sunday night on the The Nerdery LIVE.

Also, from DC this week we have Multiversity #2 and Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 3 Annual. Make sure to grab your copies, as I’m sure they will go fast.

image

Image will be bringing their second issue of Red One and releasing Pisces#1 onto the masses.

image

Marvel will be giving us Silk#3, New Avengers: Ultron Forever #1, and the one I’ve been waiting on, Fantastic Four #645. For those of you who aren’t aware, this will be the LAST Fantastic Four to be published. I have been reading this last series, and am very anxious as to the turn of events that will destroy the first superhero family that Stan Lee created all those years ago.

image

There are so many books to choose from, I can’t list them all. Even if I could, I’d rather read them. Comics have something to offer for everyone. From suspense, mystery, or horror, to capes, masks, or sci-fi to fantasy, there a something out there just for you! So, go out and get hooked on a new title today!!!

In 1986 Frank Miller changed the way the world perceived Batman with “The Dark Knight Returns”. Time went on, and the image faded. However, in 2002, he returned to give us a clear reminder of how dark Gotham can really be with “The Dark Knight Strikes Again”. That anti-hero Bruce Wayne still lives in many of our minds.

Recently, The Nerdery received the news that Frank Miller is at it again with Brian Azzarello co-writing. Due to release in the fall of 2015, this is intended to be the finale of the Dark Knight series that began all those years ago. Entitled “The Dark Knight III: The Master Race”, it will also feature another showdown between our elderly caped crusader and Superman.

image

When asked about TDKIII, Frank said simply:“Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting, but we’ll do our best.”

Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, Co-Publishers for DC Entertainment, released this statement about the new Batman project by Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello.

“We are thrilled to have Frank back home at DC writing Batman. The story he and Brian have crafted is an astounding and triumphant conclusion to this seminal body of work which influenced and shaped generations of readers and creators alike.”

Azzarello also spoke up saying:

“It’s been an amazing experience collaborating with Frank these past six months. I think we have an epic story that these characters truly deserve.”

Currently, an illustrator has yet to be named. I personally, would like to see Frank himself behind the pencils. But, who knows what this new installment could bring.
